About CRIP

CRIP is a central infrastructure for biomedical research. CRIP integrates biobanks as “databased partners” and provides anonymized data on and from human biospecimens available for research projects in its database partners’ institutes.


Initially, CRIP has been built based on data from pathology tissue banks. CRIP includes

Meanwhile, CRIP turned out to be a prototype for meta-biobanks or biobank portals also integrating very different types of biobanks, beyond pathology. They all feature

  • the CRIP Privacy Regime, which has been approved by German data protection authorities, and
  • a flexible database architecture, made up by the elements of the CRIP Toolbox.
